Cytologic Diagnosis

ATYPIA OF UNDETERMINED SIGNIFICANCE (AUS)

Predominantly mucinous cyst contents. See note.
Note: The differential diagnosis includes a range of lesions including ductal cyst and mucocele but a low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma cannot be entirely excluded.

Clinical Follow-up

The patient had a superficial parotidectomy with an intraoperative frozen section showing MEC.
The final diagnosis was a low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma, completely excised.
Patient has been disease-free for 11 years.
