Malignant – Case 01

An 80-year-old man presents with right facial paresthesia and a 3 cm right parotid mass. An FNA of the right parotid mass was performed under U/S guidance in the FNA clinic.
IHC on cell block shows that the carcinoma is positive for androgen receptor and Her2neu.

Cytologic Diagnosis

High-grade malignancy consistent with salivary duct carcinoma. See note.
Note: IHC studies for AR and Her2neu support the diagnosis.

Clinical Follow-up

The patient had a total parotidectomy with sacrifice of the facial nerve and selective LN dissection.
The diagnosis of salivary duct carcinoma was confirmed.
The patient died of disease approximately 1 year later.
